Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly considering making a move for a highly-rated European player, but they'll face competition from Real Madrid.
Five months after the summer transfer window closed, the January window has now opened, offering clubs across Europe the opportunity to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season.
Just one day into January, it already appears to be clear that the biggest transfer battle will be between Liverpool and Real Madrid, as the two European giants both hope to secure the signature of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

But Alexander-Arnold isn't the only player that both Liverpool and Real Madrid will hope to sign this year, as a new report has revealed the exciting player that both clubs are considering signing.
After qualifying for this season's Champions League, Girona lost some of their most important players during the summer, but managed to hold on to star defender Miguel Gutierrez.
However, their chances of doing so again in 2025 have been severely dented as Spanish outlet Football Espana have reported that Real Madrid are considering the full-back if they miss out on summer target Alphonso Davies.

Manchester United were also named as a club interested in signing Gutierrez, and now Caught Offside claim that Liverpool have added the 23-year-old to their shortlist of left-back targets.
Last year, Manchester City were also linked with a move for Gutierrez, with an article from The Daily Mail at the time describing the defender as 'lighting quick', but it seems that they are no longer in the race.
As it stands, Gutierrez is under contract with Girona until the summer of 2027, but with a €35m (£29m) release clause reportedly included in his contract, he could leave the club before then should a club decide to trigger it.

And it is believed that if Liverpool were to ramp up their interest then Girona could accept a bid of slightly less than Gutierrez's release clause.
But it is Real Madrid that are in the driving suit for the race for the young defender as they included a buy-back clause of just €8m when they sold Gutierrez to their La Liga rivals in 2022.
