The PGMOL have acknowledged that a "significant human error" occurred during the first half of Saturday's Premier League clash between Spurs and Liverpool.

Liverpool forward Luis Díaz had a goal chalked off during their Premier League clash against Spurs, although replays clearly indicated he was onside.

The Colombian thought he'd put Jurgen Klopp's side ahead in the 33rd minute when he beat Guglielmo Vicario with a cool finish.

But the assistant raised his flag almost immediately and the goal was ruled out – a decision that was questioned by many following Sky Sports' replay of the incident.

In an official statement, PGMOL – the body responsible for referees in the Premier League – have since admitted that their decision was incorrect.

It reads: "PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool," they said in a statement.

"The goal by Luis Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene.

"PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error.

"PGMOL will immediately be contacting Liverpool at the conclusion of the fixture to acknowledge the error."

As you can see from the footage below, Sky Sports pundit and commentator Gary Neville reacted to PGMOL's statement live on air. "It was too quick and something was obviously wrong," he said.

He could also be heard saying "no" as host Kelly Cates read out the statement.

Jamie Carragher also commented on the incident during Saturday's game. He tweeted: "When it takes this long for an answer from @FA_PGMOL over a contentious decision, you know there’s been a f**k up!"
