Shock report claims Luis Diaz has 'agreed' to join one of Liverpool's biggest Premier League rivals

Luis Diaz could be set for the biggest move of the transfer window.

New reports have suggested that Luis Diaz has agreed terms to leave Liverpool for a shock Premier League rival.

Liverpool have had a quiet summer transfer window ahead of the 2024/25 season, as they remain the only club in the Premier League yet to make a signing.

With contract renewals for key players such as Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk stalling and the transfer of Martin Zubimendi collapsing, it has been a tough couple of weeks for Liverpool fans.

And a new report suggests that the worst could yet be to come, as Luis Diaz may be set to leave the club for one of Liverpool's biggest Premier League rivals.

Journalist Marcos Benito has reported that the Colombian winger has reached an agreement with Manchester City to join the club for five years.

He claims that City are prepared to offer 70 million euros to secure the signature of the 27-year-old attacker.

Previous reports had suggested that Liverpool were open to sanctioning a sale of Diaz to Barcelona, in light of the La Liga club's talks with talented winger Nico Williams stalling.

Should Liverpool sell Diaz, it is likely that they will advance their pursuits of Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

But, selling a starting player to Manchester City would be a massive surprise due to the recent rivalry between the two clubs.

The last time the two clubs agreed a deal for a senior player was in 2015/16, when Raheem Sterling left Anfield for a fee of €63.70m.

But,The Athletic's Manchester City correspondent Sam Lee has responded to the news, suggesting that it is false, saying: "Understand there is no truth in the Luis Diaz links. That was genuinely fun for 15 minutes."

James Pearce, the Liverpool reporter for The Athletic, has gone a step further, saying: "Liverpool have had no approaches for Luis Diaz from any club. #LFC"

The update from Pearce also puts to bed the Barcelona links, and suggest that Liverpool fans can expect to see Diaz in the squad for their Premier League season opener against Ipswich Town on Saturday.
