Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai has been compared to Lionel Messi at his best after his recent performances.

Szoboszlai joined Liverpool during the summer transfer window in what was a huge midfield overhaul by the Anfield club.

The Hungarian has hit the ground running straight away after a string of impressive performances in the middle of the park.

During the latest international break, Szoboszlai scored a stunning solo goal as Hungary sealed their place in next summer’s Euro 2024.

The Liverpool man scored twice and assisted one during the 3-2 win against Montenegro.

After the match, he was seen downing a shot with fans as the team celebrated their success.

Now, Szoboszlai has been compared to peak Messi by one of his teammates.

Goalkeeper Denes Dibusz said to INDEX: “You get the feeling about him like when Lionel Messi was at his best at Barcelona a few years ago. When he had a thought, he went down the pitch and scored.

“He is a player of an incredible level and a great leader, who is able to lead the team on the field and add something extra to his game that draws the others along, and is also effective.

Dibusz continued: “After the Bulgaria match, I think he was also a little frustrated that despite his chances, he didn't manage to score. I think you can be satisfied with your finishes and performance today.”

Meanwhile, Szoboszlai said: “It’s a wonderful feeling to see everyone smiling around us and people happy with our success.”

Szoboszlai will be hoping to take his impressive form back to Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s men face a huge clash at the Etihad Stadium against Premier League leaders Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool are currently one point behind City in the table as they look to overtake Pep Guardiola's men with a victory this weekend.
