Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez had the perfect response to being called a "s*** Andy Carroll" by Southampton supporters.
Arne Slot's side secured their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday night as goals from Nunez and Harvey Elliott sealed a narrow 2-1 win at St Mary's.
The Saints, who recently sacked Russell Martin after picking up just one win from a possible 16 in the league, deployed a particularly defensive approach under interim Simon Rusk.

And it worked for the opening 20 minutes as struggling Southampton kept their opponents at bay with their cautious 5-4-1 formation out of possession.
But after hearing chants of "you're just a s*** Andy Carroll" after putting one of his shots over the bar, the unpredictable Darwin Nunez responded by finding the net minutes later.
In fact, Nunez proceeded to 'shush' a section of Southampton supporters who chanted the disparaging remarks, which suggests he is fully aware of the meaning behind it.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to Nunez's response to the song.
One said: "I get the impression that Darwin Nunez is now fully aware of what the Andy Carroll chant means," while another commented: "Nunez silencing the Andy Carroll shouts."
A third wrote: "Every time opposition fans call Darwin Nunez Andy Carroll he seems to score. Can opposition fans continue to do it."
A fourth said: "Now the away end singing 's*** Andy Carroll'. Really enjoying the idea of Darwin Nunez taking a few seconds to understand it's sarcasm."

A fifth added: "Nunez learning English and understanding the "s*** Andy Carroll chants" is killing me."
Earlier this year, Nunez admitted he didn't understand the Carroll chant when it was aimed at him during Liverpool's win over Nottingham Forest in May.
"In that game, the Forest fans were singing to me but I didn't understand anything," he told ESPN Uruguay. "Thank goodness I ended up scoring the [winning] goal."

Nunez proceeded to give an insight into what Jurgen Klopp said to him after the full-time whistle. He added: "Then the coach [Klopp] in the locker room said 'screw them'."
