Jamie Carragher breaks silence on David Coote controversy in furious message to fan on social media

Jamie Carragher breaks silence on David Coote controversy in furious message to fan on social media

Jamie Carragher has reacted to referee David Coote's suspension after he made insulting comments about Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.

Jamie Carragher has broken his silence on the David Coote controversy after being widely criticised for remaining silent on the matter.

Coote has been suspended by the PGMOL and is also the subject of an FA investigation after a video appeared to show him making insulting comments about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

In the foul-mouthed chat, the man who resembles Coote can be seen calling Klopp a "German c***" and labeling the 57-year-old "f***ing arrogant", while also describing Liverpool as "s***" in a game at Anfield where had "recently" served as fourth official.

In a second clip, he told the other man sat next to him: "Just to be clear, that f***ing last video cannot go anywhere, seriously."

After initially denying the video was genuine, the 42-year-old performed a u-turn and admitted the clip was legitimate but that he didn't recall the content of the conversation.

Coote has been placed on immediate suspension as an investigation into the viral video continues.

Sky Sports pundits Carragher and Gary Neville are typically quick to react to all major stories but after seeing no comment from either, fans began to call them out on social media.

But after one fan branded the pair "fully fledged sell outs" and accused them of "selective outrage", Carragher hit back.

The Liverpool legend responded furiously and confirmed his opinion will be available in the next episode of the Overlap.

On X, Carragher wrote: "No, what we have learned is you & plenty of others are desperate for attention by throwing our names in your tweets about any controversy in football.

"I gave my opinion on it @WeAreTheOverlap yesterday morning, it drops tomorrow. I’m sure you’ll see it!"

Coote, who officiated Liverpool's win over Aston Villa on Saturday, is unable to referee in English football while suspended - and there are reports claiming referee chiefs believe he could quit prior to the investigation reaching an outcome.

However, a report from the Daily Mail states that he could be offered an escape route from Saudi Arabia, allowing him to continue his career as a ref.

The other man in the video has been named as former professional cricketer Ben Kitt, who has since been suspended from his job.
