Jamie Carragher calls for radical rule change in football after claiming it's 'boring' for fans

Jamie Carragher has called for a huge rule change.

Former Liverpool and England star Jamie Carragher has picked out one football rule that should be removed, claiming it's boring for fans.

During his career, Carragher only played for his boyhood club Liverpool, going on to make a total of 737 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals.

The defender lifted the Champions League and the FA Cup among other trophies.

On the international stage, Carragher was capped 38 times by England.

After calling time on his career back in 2013, Carragher became a regular on Sky Sports and is one of the most popular pundits in the game.

Speaking recently on The Overlap's Price of Football Fan Debate, Carragher and Manchester United legend Paul Scholes discussed whether replays should still be a thing in the FA Cup.

During the debate, Carragher suggested the extra time period should be removed.

He said: "I think extra time should be out of football, I think extra time is boring."

Speaking about the FA Cup replays, Carragher said: "I wanted the FA Cup replays gone. I just felt with the FA Cup, replays when I was a kid, I remember Everton playing Sheffield Wednesday four times in 88 or 89.

"FA Cup replays were a big thing then, but when there's FA Cup replays now, sometimes you don't even know they're on. No one's interested, I did think it was time to stop having FA Cup replays."

He added: "I actually think the Carabao Cup now, as a competition, is probably more exciting than the FA Cup, the game is done that night, there's a penalty shootout and you know the draw.

"In the FA Cup, this team could play this team or this team and you don't know where you are."

This week, the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup take place, with Arsenal taking on Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur facing Liverpool.

On the weekend, the FA Cup will take centre stage with holders Manchester United up against Arsenal in the tie of the round.
