Liverpool could be set to use a promising player as a part of a deal to tempt a Premier League forward to join the club.

Arne Slot’s side currently sit top of the Premier League and 36-team Champions League group phase heading into the second half of the campaign.

Liverpool could still win a historic quadruple having reached the fourth round of the FA Cup after a 4-0 win against Accrington Stanley at Anfield on Saturday.

And they trail Tottenham 1-0 after the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final but with the second leg being at Anfield, Slot, 46, will still fancy his side’s chances.

However, one thing that has not gone as planned since Slot arrived last summer is transfers. The Reds have signed just one player – Federico Chiesa – since Slot joined the club.

But now that the January transfer window is open, the Reds are free to negotiate transfers if they see fit. Of course, the potential outgoings of the soon-to-be out-of-contract Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold may be the first thing on most fans’ minds, but the Premier League leaders have been heavily linked with an in-form player.

But the deal could prove complex.

According to the Daily Star, the Reds are “showing interest” in Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo with the Cherries ‘preparing’ for “bids” for the forward.

Semenyo, 25, has scored six goals and registered three assists in 21 appearances for Andoni Iraola’s side this term, with his performances attracting the interest of Liverpool.

The Ghanaian, whose current deal is set to run until June 2029, is thought to be valued at around £50m.

But a potential transfer could see a Liverpool youngster join the south coast side in a ‘swap deal’. The Northern Echo explains how there are “strong suggestions” that Bournemouth are interested in signing Ben Doak, who is currently on loan at Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough.

Last week, reports suggested Liverpool were “reluctantly” willing to accept an offer of “£25-30m” for the Doak, 19, with Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town having seen bids of “around 15m” rejected by the Merseyside-based club, according to Football Insider.

The inclusion of the Scotland international in a potential deal would allow Liverpool to land one of their key transfer targets for a reduced fee.
