European giants 'all in' on signing Liverpool star 'expected to stay' which would derail Arne Slot's plans

The Liverpool boss would no doubt be devastated to see the key player leave given their position in the Premier League.

An elite European club are ‘interested’ in signing one of Liverpool’s key players which would pose a nightmare scenario for Arne Slot.

Slot, 46, has overseen an almost perfect first half of the 2024/25 campaign with the Reds currently top of the Premier League and 36-team Champions League group phase following their 2-1 win against Lille at Anfield on Tuesday.

Of course, the contract situations of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold continue to rumble on in the background – all three are free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs as their current deals are set to expire at the end of the season.

And now another key man has been linked with a potential move away from the club which will concern Slot and Liverpool’s supporters.

Ibrahima Konate has been a stalwart in the heart of Liverpool’s defence alongside Van Dijk, 33, this season, having featured 22 times in all competitions this term.

Konate, 25, is currently contracted to Liverpool until June 2026 but revealed on Monday that he was the latest star to receive a contract offer from the club.

When asked if a new deal was on the table by journalists at a press conference he replied: “Yes.”

And when pressed about if he was close to signing, he admitted: “This is another conversation."

Of course, his cryptic response has left fans questioning the player’s future and now PSG have been linked with a potential move for the centre-back.

Anfield Watch reports that the French champions are “all-in” on signing the defender, who was born in Paris.

While according to Caught Offside, “sources indicate” that Real Madrid had been “following Konate closely” as they look to bolster their defensive options following the long-term injury of Eder Miltao. The report even suggests that a deal could happen regardless of whether Madrid manage to sign Alexander-Arnold, 26.

Ahead of the victory against Lille, Konate admitted that had been playing through pain after returning from a knee injury last month and was an unused substitute on Tuesday.

The France international will likely return to the Liverpool starting XI for this Saturday's Premier League clash against Ipswich Town at Anfield.
