Liverpool Fans Have Lost It With One Player After Crystal Palace Defeat

Liverpool fans have singled out one player following their side’s poor performance during their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 2024/25 Premier League champions travelled to south London with the confidence of having a 100 percent record so far this season.

The Reds were without forward Hugo Ekitike after he was sent off in the League Cup third round victory against Southampton on Tuesday.

His absence all but forced Liverpool head coach Arne Slot to start record signing Alexander Isak at Selhurst Park, but the Swede failed to make a positive impact on proceedings.

Isak’s supporting cast of Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai also drew blanks against Oliver Glasner’s side, who led for most of the game thanks to Ismaila Sarr’s ninth-minute strike.

Sarr’s goal was his fifth in his eight career appearances against the Reds, with the Senegal international also boasting two previous assists against Liverpool.

But Federico Chiesa rescued a point for the away side on 87 minutes.

And just when both sides may have thought it was all over, Eddie Nketiah fired home in second-half stoppage time to hand the home side a deserved 2-1 win.

Despite Slot’s side looking toothless in attack, fans also called out a defender for his lacklustre performance even though he wasn't on the pitch when the winner went in.

Many supporters were not pleased with centre-back Ibrahima Konate for his showing against the Eagles.

26-year-old Konate played 74 minutes before he was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong as the Reds chased an equaliser.

And fans have had their say on social media.

One said: "Konate is the worst player with the ball in this team, I don't care what anyone says, but he must go."

Another added: "Ibrahima Konate either has a run of games where he’s faultless or forgets how to play football and becomes error-prone. There’s no middle ground, and it’s jarring."

A third explained: "Rhys Williams, get your boots on, mate, this Konate is too busy flirting with Real Madrid and running his like he's wearing Timberland boots. Poor performance from him again."

While a fourth claimed: "This Mateta domination of Konaté. All over him in the air, in the wide channel and in hold-up play. He’s given Crystal Palace a big platform to play off."

Then a fifth commented: "We've absolutely got away with murder there.

"We deserve nothing from this game. Konate and Bradley are genuinely the two worst on the pitch."

Konate has been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid in recent times, with his Liverpool contract set to expire in June 2026.

Liverpool return to action with a Champions League away trip to Istanbul where they will face Turkish champions Galatasaray on Tuesday. Palace face Dynamo Kyiv in their Conference League opener in Poland on Thursday.
