Amazon Prime have reportedly apologised to Liverpool boss Arne Slot over an apparent incident that took place during the Reds' clash against Newcastle United.

On Wednesday night, Liverpool dropped two vital points as they drew 3-3 against the Magpies at St. James' Park.

Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon had put Newcastle in front twice before Mohamed Salah turned the game around, only for Fabian Schar to score a late equaliser on the back of a mistake by Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

After the match, Amazon Prime presenter Dan Walker told Newcastle boss Eddie Howe that Slot visited the referee's room at half-time.

Referee Andrew Madley received heavy criticism after blowing the final whistle when Newcastle looked like they were on a counter attack in the last few seconds of the match.

Reacting at the time, Howe said: "I don't think I'll go there. I think that's a can of worms. I tend to focus on my team."

However, it has been claimed that the streaming platform has now apologised to Slot after wrongly implying he went into the officials' room at half-time.

As reported by The Times, Amazon Prime issued an apology to Slot after it was revealed that the Dutchman had a conversation with the referee in the tunnel instead of the officials' room.

In addition, it has been suggested that Amazon Prime blamed the mistake on a production misunderstanding before contacting Slot personally to apologise.

SPORTbible has contacted Amazon Prime for comment.

As a result of the draw against Newcastle, Liverpool's lead at the top of the Premier League table has been cut to just seven points.

Slot said after the match: "I've said many times already to the other media there were moments in the game where you thought if we could come away from here with a draw it would be a good result, but those moments were mainly in the first half.

"In the second half, especially after we scored for 1-1, I thought we were really impressive. We created so many opportunities, good chances. Then, one minute before the end being 3-2 up, it feels like a disappointment to drop two points."

Liverpool will be back in Premier League action this weekend when they take on local rivals Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
