Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has spoken out about Alexander Isak's potential move to Liverpool ahead of their Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

In the final match of the second week of Premier League fixtures, champions Liverpool travel to St James' Park on Monday night to face Newcastle United in what many are anticipating could be the best match of the season so far.

With tensions surrounding Newcastle's star Isak and his potential a move to Anfield highest than ever, many fans anticipate that the atmosphere within St James' Park could be one of the most intimidating in recent years.

And with just one week before the transfer window closes, Monday's match could be key to any negotiations regarding Isak over the coming days.

But before the match kicks off, transfer expert Romano has offered a huge update on the saga surrounding Isak's potential transfer to Liverpool.

As it stands, reports have suggested that Newcastle remain adamant that they will only consider selling their star man if they can sign two new strikers this week, one to replace Isak and another to replace Callum Wilson, who left earlier in the summer.

However, with Liverpool expected to submit a second British record bid in the coming days, Romano has revealed that the saga is far from over.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer journalist said: "It's going to be an important moment because it's going to close this story between Newcastle and Liverpool and then from Tuesday we will understand more.

"Newcastle hope internally that this week, after the game, Alexander Isak can return to training, they want to convince Isak to be back after the game one Monday.

"Liverpool remain in the same position, they want Isak, they will attack for Isak but it depends on Newcastle, this story completely depends on Newcastle.

"Isak wants to go to Liverpool. Isak wants to play for Liverpool. Liverpool want to go for Isak. Liverpool are prepared to pay. But Newcastle are the ones are decide and they will try their best to keep him."

After their opening offer of £110million was rejected at the beginning of August, it is likely that Liverpool will have to pay significantly more if they hope to tempt Newcastle into selling Isak so late in the window.

It is unknown exactly how much the Reds would have to pay to sign the Sweden international, but it is likely that the total package will be at least £130m, smashing the British transfer set by Florian Wirtz's £116m move to Liverpool earlier this summer.
