Kylian Mbappe shows what mask he'll wear for Euro 2024 clash between France and the Netherlands

Mbappe suffered a broken nose in France's 1-0 win over Austria.

Kylian Mbappe has posted a picture of his new protective mask ahead of Friday night's Euro 2024 clash between France and the Netherlands.

Earlier this week, the 25-year-old forward suffered a broken nose in France's 1-0 win over Austria after colliding with the shoulder of defender Kevin Danso.

Mbappe was replaced by Olivier Giroud in the latter stages before being taken to a local hospital, where it was confirmed that he will need to wear a mask for the remainder of his participation in Euro 2024.

He will also be forced to undergo surgery on his broken nose once this summer's tournament ends.

There were initially contrasting reports about Mbappe's availability for Friday's clash against the Netherlands but according to L'Equipe, he will not start against the Dutch.

That being said, the Frenchman posted a picture of his protective mask ahead of kick-off.

Mbappe sported a mask using the blue, white and red colours of the French flag in a recent training session – a piece of equipment that was deemed not suitable for games.

UEFA rules state that masks worn in matches must be a single colour.

A section in the rules and regulations handbook reads: “Medical equipment worn on the playing field must be of a single colour and must not allow the team or manufacturer to be identified."

Confirming his captain will wear a mask for Friday's game, France manager Didier Deschamps gave an update on Mbappe in his latest press conference.

"Everything is going in the right direction after the major shock he had with the consequences of course," Deschamps said.

"Yesterday, he was able to go out and do a little activity. This will also be the case this evening. It’s moving in the right direction for make sure he can be available tomorrow."

France forward Antoine Griezmann also commented on Mbappe's condition. "Kylian is doing very well. His nose is less swollen," he said. "We will see how he is doing until the end. His feeling will be the deciding factor."

Marcus Thuram is expected to lead the line for France against Ronald Koeman's side, with Adrien Rabiot being handed a more advanced role.
