James Rodriguez offered a contract to return to top European league after stunning Copa America performances

James Rodriguez could make an unexpected return to Europe.

James Rodriguez has been offered the chance to return to European football after his impressive performances at the Copa America.

10 years ago James Rodriguez lit up the 2014 World Cup with Colombia, a tournament that earned him a huge move to Real Madrid later that summer.

The attacking midfielder made an impressive start to life at the Bernabeu, but after a few years his star began to fade and he was loaned out to Bayern Munich and Everton with limited success.

Spells in Qatar with Al-Rayyan and in Greece with Olympiacos followed, before a return to South America with Brazilian giants Sao Paulo last year suggested his career in Europe was over.

Yet earlier this summer, Rodriguez replicated his 2014 form with a string of stunning performances to propel Colombia to the final of the Copa America in the United States.

The 33-year-old scored one goal and provided six assists in six appearances and was named the tournament MVP.

Rodriguez could not see his nation over the line as they fell 1-0 to Lionel Messi's Argentina in the final, but his contribution was enough to spark interest from several European clubs.

According to Spanish outlet Cope, La Liga side Celta Vigo are one of them, and have even put a two-year contract on the table for Rodriguez.

The Asturian side have struggled in recent times, finishing 13th in the table last season after flirting with relegation for most of the campaign.

The same report claims that several other Spanish clubs are interested in the Colombia star, including Atletico Madrid and Real Betis.

The former Real Madrid man has also been linked with a return to the Premier League, three years after he left Everton.

A return to Goodison Park has been muted, as have moves to Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
