A former teammate of England and Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has recalled the time he won the lottery and nearly lost it all.

Before making a name for himself in the Premier League, Maguire spent his youth career at Sheffield United.

During his time with the Blades, Maguire played alongside Terry Kennedy.

However, Kennedy's career was abruptly halted due to multiple injury problems.

He then started working in the construction industry but luck came on his side when he found himself as the winner of the lottery.

As reported by The Sun, Terry and his partner Kay Yoxall won £1 million in 2021 but were nearly left with nothing because of a small mistake.

The reason was the fact that Terry left his ticket behind at a shop, but was luckily called back by the assistant to collect it.

And thanks to the kind gesture of the shop worker, Terry became a millionaire.

Speaking after the win, Terry said: "Despite all the checks it isn’t until you hear on the phone that it is a £1M win that you really believe it.

"This win is something which has absolutely changed our lives forever, including the ability it’s given us to travel the world."

He added: "It is always something you hope will happen to you but it is just a dream – you think it’s something that only happens to other people – not ordinary people like us.

"Every single day, we have to pinch ourselves to remind us that this is real and it really did happen to us."

Meanwhile, Kay said: "The winning isn’t just about the money – it is about buying you that all important time which when you are working you just do not have."

Terry admitted that they couldn't travel the world like they wanted as they were not able to get time off work but has also stated that he has since left his job.

The report stated: "The pair has already visited several countries, jetting off on a new holiday every month.

"They have spent a total of four months away, landing in Thailand, Dubai, Portugal, France, Australia, New Zealand, Budapest, Turkey."
