Germany's clash with Denmark at Euro 2024 was suspended due to extreme weather.
The scores were level after 34 minutes before referee Michael Oliver ordered both teams off the field as lightning struck close to the Borussia Dortmund stadium,
After receiving instructions on the touchline from their managers, both teams headed straight down the tunnel to await guidance from UEFA as fans in the stadium were spotted in good spirits despite the delay.

Eventually, the two sides re-entered the field of play as the rain subsided - but what would have happen if the game is abandoned?
UEFA regulations state that if a match cannot be played in full, the full or remaining match time is played on the next day without any prejudice to any possible disciplinary measures.
If the game cannot be replayed on the next day, UEFA fixes a new date, during or as close as possible to the international match calendar window concerned.

The game, as a rule, is played at the same venue but if circumstances dictate, UEFA must approve any change of venue.
Finally, in the worst case scenario, the game would be played at a back up venue with no spectators if necessary.
Furthermore, the game would restart on the same spot where the abandoned match action occurred. If the stoppage occurred during the normal flow of the game, as it was in Germany, a dropped ball on the spot where the game was ended would be used to restart proceedings.

The game was eventually restarted from the 34th minute and it remains to be seen whether the adverse weather conditions will return.
With the weather conditions easing up, the final few minutes of the half were played out without issue.
ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley confirmed there would be an extended half-time break following the match's suspension earlier.
