FIFA 'request' two new sports to be included at 2028 Olympic Games and it will delight fans

FIFA want two new sports added to the list of events at the 2028 Olympic games in Los Angeles.

FIFA have requested for two new sports to be included at the 2028 Olympic games, it has been reported.

The next showpiece takes place in Los Angeles in four years, with the City of Angels preparing to host the Games for the third time and targeting a car-free Olympics.

We already know that breaking will be getting nixed after its controversial debut in Paris.

Cricket, baseball, softball and lacrosse will all be making a return at the Games - with flag football and squash set to be included for the first time.

Football is poised to be retained after its successful men's and women's Olympics tournaments earlier this year.

Although there are different rules and regulations, FIFA are hugely involved in the competition and according to Globo Esporte, the world governing body want to add to the curriculum.

The Brazilian outlet claims FIFA want both beach soccer and futsal, two variations of football, in the next Olympics.

Following on from the latest board meeting in Zurich, FIFA are lobbying to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the two sports to inserted into the mix.

A document released at the meeting says FIFA will issue an official proposal to the IOC.

As per Globo, it read: "Given the levels of participation around the world, FIFA will also propose that both futsal and beach soccer be considered as separate football disciplines at the Olympic Games from now on."

FIFA have governed both Futsal World Cup and the Beach Soccer World Cup since 1989 and 2005 respectively.

In the women's tournament, FIFA are also pushing for an extra four teams to take the number of participants to 16.

Meanwhile, there have been reports that Team GB are considering competing in the men's football competition for the first time since in 2016.

The last time it happened was in 2012 on home soil, when the likes of Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy, Aaron Ramsey and Micah Richards all featured as Stuart Pearce's men reached the quarter finals.
