Lucky punter wins incredible Euro 2024 bet after first set of last-16 games

One football fan won an incredible Euro 2024 bet.

One lucky gambler won an incredible bet on the first day of the Euro 2024 knockout stages.

The knockout rounds are when major tournaments get a bit spicier as the stakes and the pressure increase, and that's also the case for punters.

Saturday saw the Euro 2024 round-of-16 get underway, with Italy facing Switzerland and Germany taking on Denmark.

Reigning European champions Italy limped out of the tournament with a 2-0 defeat to an impressive Swiss side, who will play either England or Slovakia in the quarter-finals.

Germany then saw off Denmark by the same scoreline, albeit in controversial circumstances.

Swiss and German celebrated their victories late into the evening, as did one punter in Glasgow.

While Scotland didn't give him much to cheer about this tournament, his betting slip selections certainly did.

The punter put a £5 stake on a crazy bet builder, which came through to win him £2,550.

In Switzerland's victory against Italy, the fan backed Swiss duo Dan Ndoye and Remo Freuler to both commit over 1.5 fouls and Italy pair Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella to both commit over 0.5 fouls.

In addition, the punter correctly predicted that Federico Chiesa and Ndoye would both take over 1.5 shots and that Granit Xhaka and Gianluca Scamacca would attempt over 0.5.

In Germany's win, the fan backed German midfielder Robert Andrich to commit over 1.5 fouls, as well as Danish stars Rasmus Hojlund and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to make over 0.5.

He also correctly guessed that Christian Eriksen and Kai Havertz would bother attempt over 1.5 shots while Hojlund and and Jamal Musiala would take over 0.5.

The punter ended the night £2,550 in pocket, but adverse weather conditions in Dortmund almost ruined everything.

Referee Michael Oliver took the players off the pitch for 24 minutes during the first half when lightning struck close to the Westfalenstadion, but fortunately for the punter the game resumed.

The punter commented on X: "Should’ve seen me sitting sweating staring at a 900 quid cash out when that rain was coming down."
