Diego Maradona named the best two players he swapped shirts with during his career.

Diego Maradona once revealed the best TWO players he swapped shirts with during his legendary career.

Maradona enjoyed an iconic career and played against some of the greatest players of his generation.

And he was asked to name the best players he swapped shirts with during an interview in 2019.

Speaking to TyC Sports' Libero, Maradona named Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten when they were both at AC Milan.

He came up against the Dutch duo during his legendary Napoli spell, where he helped the Italian side to league glory in in the 1986/87 and 1989/90 seasons.

"The best shirts I swapped were with Gullit and Van Basten when they were at AC Milan," he said.

Gullit joined Milan from PSV Eindhoven in what was his first move away from the Netherlands, having played for HFC Haarlem and Feyenoord.

He spent seven seasons at the San Siro outfit and played alongside Van Basten, who made the switch from Ajax.

Van Basten scored an impressive 129 goals in 205 appearances across all competitions during his time at the club.

He outscored Maradona in the 1988/89 season, bagging 19 goals compared to his counterpart's nine and in the following campaign.

In the 1989/90 season, Van Basten netted 19 goals, with Maradona weighing in with 16 goals.

In the same interview, Maradona also named fellow Argentine Alfredo Di Stefano as the greatest football in history and accused Pele of overlooking the Real Madrid legend's quality.

"I think the best was Di Stefano," he added. "He was superior to everyone - even me.

"Pele didn't want to recognise Di Stefano's talents. Pele's friends invented a trophy especially for him for being a living legend of football. I even beat Pele in Rio for being the best in history!"
