Cristiano Ronaldo explains why Portugal 'deserve' to win Euro 2024 instead of England

Cristiano Ronaldo has explained why Portugal deserve to win the tournament in Germany.

Cristiano Ronaldo has explained why Portugal 'deserve' to win Euro 2024 ahead of the likes of England and France.

Portugal are grouped with Turkey, Georgia and Czech Republic in Group F as they begin their campaign next Tuesday.

Manager Roberto Martinez has picked a star-studded squad, boasting the likes of Manchester City pair Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias and Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes, among others.

And Ronaldo believes that this generation of players deserves to win the competition in Germany.

"I believe that this generation deserves to win a competition of this magnitude. Semifinals? I hope we can go further," he said.

"We have to go step by step, live in the moment, be calm, work as well as we have until now, believe that it is possible. We know it's a short competition, but the team is ready."

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner will compete in his SIXTH Euros and will look to add another European Championship to his incredible trophy haul.

"I enjoy football, records are a consequence, not a goal, they appear naturally," he added.

"It's my sixth European Championship, it's about enjoying it in the best possible way, playing well and making sure the team can win."

Portugal open their German venture against Czech Republic and Ronaldo believes a 'good start' is essential.

"It's getting off to a good start which is essential," he said.

"I feel ready, I've prepared myself for this competition."

Despite his experience at international level, the 39-year-old still feels anxiety heading into major competitions.

On his mentality, he continued: "Anxiety is always there, that tingling in your stomach, especially the day before the game.

"I'm glad I feel it, when I don't feel it, it's better to give up and stop. I feel motivated and prepared. I see the team quite calm."
