Cristiano Ronaldo drops 'the coldest' response to breaking yet another record

The 39-year-old forward scored a brace for Al Nassr in their 4-0 win over Al Ittihad.

Cristiano Ronaldo took to social media after he set a new record for goals scored in a Saudi Pro League season – and the post has since gone viral.

The 39-year-old forward, who continues to prove that age is just a number, netted a brace for Al Nassr in their 4-2 win over Al Ittihad on Monday night.

He equalled Abderrazak Hamdallah’s record of most goals scored in a single Saudi Pro League season when he put Luis Castro's side ahead.

And 24 minutes into the second-half, Ronaldo netted his 35th goal of the SPL season, overtaking Hamdallah in the all-time list.

Ronaldo has scored 64 goals in 69 games for Al Nassr in all competitions since his move from Manchester United in January last year.

But as you can see from the footage below, this one meant more than most.

Ronaldo, who is now the first player in history to be a top goalscorer in four different leagues, reacted to his latest feat with a post on X, formerly Twitter.

He wrote: "I don’t follow the records, the records follow me."

In total, the former Real Madrid and Juventus forward has notched 35 goals in 11 assists in 31 games for the Saudi Pro League side.

But despite his impressive campaign for Al Nassr, Wayne Rooney recently snubbed his former teammate in the 'greatest of all time' debate.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, Rooney was asked why he favours Lionel Messi over Ronaldo.

“I think Messi, he’s the best ever. I get a lot of stick for saying Messi where it’s as if, ‘How can you say Messi, it’s Ronaldo.’

"I understand that people can say Messi, people can say Ronaldo – they are both incredible, probably the best two players to ever play the game. For me, Messi has just got that little bit more flair, which I like in a player, so that’s the reason.”

As we've come to understand down the years, however, the debate continues to rumble on.

Last week, for example, former Premier League midfielder Pedro Mendes said Ronaldo is a "more complete" player compared to Messi.

"I think we have witnessed the two greatest players of all time in the game, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi," Mendes told OLBG.

"For years and years they competed at the highest level and have done fantastic things on the pitch, both of them are incredible.

"The debate always comes down to who you like more as a player. Cristiano Ronaldo is the more complete player, he proved he could win La Liga, the Premier League and Serie A and was the top scorer in all of them - for me that is a huge thing to do."

He added: "Between him and Messi, Ronaldo wins that battle. Messi of course is a fantastic technical player, but we only saw him playing outside Spain for two years in France towards the end of his career and only now in MLS.

"So we never knew how we would do in England in the Premier League where it is far more aggressive with more tackles, where Ronaldo did fantastically.

"In that debate there is a lot of controversy and opinion, but Ronaldo is a more complete player than Messi."
