Fans are only just realising who Chelsea's assistant manager will be after Enzo Maresca was confirmed as Mauricio Pochettino's replacement.

Maresca was installed as the leading candidate after they parted company with Pochettino after a single season.

Chelsea had explored other options like Thomas Frank and Kieran McKenna but Maresca will now take the reins at Stamford Bridge after guiding Leicester back into the Premier League with a title-winning season in the Championship.

Leicester posted a statement announcing his departure, with Chelsea also posting and revealing Maresca has penned a five-year deal, with the option of an extra year.

The Italian will officially start work on July 1, with six members of his backroom staff joining him in west London.

And there will be a familiar face in the dugout alongside the former Parma manager.

His right-hand man is former goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who played 38 times for Chelsea between 2017 and 2021 and won both the Europa League and Champions League.

The former Argentina international moved to England in 2014, joining Manchester City after four seasons with Malaga in La Liga.

He went on to make 48 appearances, notably producing penalty-saving heroics in the 2016 League Cup final win over Liverpool and establishing himself as first-choice goalkeeper towards the end of Pep Guardiola's first season.

He also had a very brief spell at Southampton before his contract expired and he immediately linked up with Maresca at the King Power Stadium for his first coaching role last summer.

Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javi Molina and Roberto Vitiello will also join be part of Maresca's team.

"To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach," he told Chelsea's website.

"It is why I am so excited by this opportunity.

"I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud.”
