Cole Palmer tipped to join European giants from Chelsea in shock move

Cole Palmer tipped to join European giants from Chelsea in shock move

Palmer has been advised to make a sensational switch.

William Gallas has tipped Cole Palmer to make a sensational move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer if Chelsea fail to win silverware under Enzo Maresca.

Palmer has quickly become one of the biggest stars in English football since making his £40m move to Chelsea from the Etihad.

Despite making his debut in 2020 for City, Palmer only really burst onto the scene last season following his move to Stamford Bridge where his form and output skyrocketed.

Since the move, Palmer has scored an incredible 28 Premier League goals as well as providing 16 assists in just 41 appearances for the club.

Although Palmer has established himself as one of the best players in the league in the last 12 months, the same can't really be said about Chelsea who endured a largely difficult season under Mauricio Pochettino last campaign.

However, things are starting to look up as Maresca's side sits fourth in the Premier League table after some impressive performances in the opening seven games.

If Chelsea's upward trajectory doesn't continue and Maresca can't put silverware on the table, former Blues defender William Gallas has called for Palmer to make a shock move away from England.

Speaking in an interview via Prime Casino Gallas claimed Barcelona would be the perfect place for Palmer to go and create a legacy.

"Barcelona would be a great move for him, but they have great young players already like Lamine Yamal and might also be signing Nico Williams," Gallas revealed.

The former Arsenal man also explained that Palmer's current form could make him too good for Chelsea if they don't grow and improve with the England international.

"Palmer looks like he is going to have a very similar season to last year and even though he is young, it will be tough to see his friends winning trophies if he isn't at Chelsea despite the way he is playing. I won't be surprised if he wants to speak to Chelsea in the summer if they again fail to win a trophy," he continued.

A move to Barcelona could be tricky for the Catalan giants to pull off due to Palmer's extremely lengthy contract at the London club.

Palmer initially signed a deal until 2031, however, his outstanding form earned him a pay rise and a two-year extension until 2033 meaning it would likely take a monumental fee to buy the 22-year-old.

Despite the Spanish league having a significantly different style to the Premier League, Gallas has zero concerns that the midfielder wouldn't thrive at the Camp Nou.

"He has the ability to go anywhere he wants and be a success because he is a very special player. His quality is completely different to any other English player and he could be a huge success wherever he goes," Gallas said.
