Chelsea star Cole Palmer’s bid to trademark his ‘Cold’ celebration has been challenged by a French vineyard.
As fans will know, after scoring goals, Palmer often performs his ‘Cold’ celebration during which he puts his hands on his arms in a shivering motion.
Of course, the Chelsea and England man is not the only player to sport the celebration, with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers also doing the same thing when he scores.
But it’s fair to say the celebration is most commonly associated with Palmer, who reported tried to trademark it and his ‘Cold Palmer’ nickname earlier this year.

According to Myers & Co Solicitors, “A trademark distinguishes a business from others in the marketplace and helps create a unique brand that builds recognition and trust. It can be a business name, logo, or slogan. By registering something as a trademark – via an application to the Intellectual Property Office – you can secure exclusive rights to use your chosen mark in connection with a particular service”.

However, Palmer’s application was opposed by a French vineyard, according to The Sun.
The Englishman had hoped to use the trademark on a range of products, such as clothes and toiletries, as well as “Alcoholic beverages; alcoholic fruit beverages; pre-mixed alcoholic beverages; wines; spirits; liqueurs; alcoholic energy drinks; low alcoholic beverages” according to his application.

French vineyard Château Palmer has opposed this as they want to preserve their own image.

The Sun reports that lawyers at the government’s Intellectual Property Office will rule on the matter after receiving representations from both parties.
The wine company was founded by British Army officer Charles Palmer in 1814 and currently sells bottles worth up to £750.

"I first did the 'cold' celebration last December in a game against Luton where we won 3-2. It's a nod to my former City academy teammate Morgan Rogers," he said.
"It symbolises joy, passion and hard determination for the game plus it's funny as it works well with my name. Everyone knows it's my celebration. Lots of people might have done it, but everybody knows it is my celebration."
