Chelsea and Juventus 'agree deal' for shock player as Fabrizio Romano drops transfer bombshell out of nowhere

Nobody saw this coming.

Chelsea and Juventus have agreed a deal for defender Renato Veiga on a loan until the end of the season.

Viega joined Chelsea for a fee of around £12 million from FC Basel, but has only started one Premier League game so far this season.

The Portugal international signed a seven year deal in the summer, but is now set to spend the remainder of the season in Serie A.

However, there is a catch to the deal, with Viega set to return to Chelsea ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

The 21-year-old reportedly agreed a move to Borussia Dortmund last week, however, it is Juventus that have won the race as Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move via X.

He wrote: "Juventus agree deal with Chelsea to sign Renato Veiga, here we go!

"Loan deal for €5m loan fee until June, no buy option clause — and then player back to Chelsea at the end of June for Clubs’ World Cup."

Romano also confirmed Thiago Motta plans to deploy the 21-year-old as a centre back for the Italian giants.

Viega is an extremely versatile player, and has the ability to play across the entire backline as well as stepping into midfield which is where he was used most at Basel.

Speaking in October via The Metro, Enzo Maresca praised Veiga's ability to fill the gaps when needed.

"He has played already as a centre-back, a full-back, holding midfielder, attacking midfielder," he explained.

"He has already played four or five positions. One of my first press conferences, I said that the reason why I really like and love Chelsea is because many players can be versatile.

"Today, in my idea, if they can play different positions, then it is better for the team and especially for the players. Today, if you just play one position, I don’t think it’s enough. You need to learn more positions."
