Chelsea fans are convinced it's 'over' for one of their players after Enzo Maresca's telling comments during his press conference.

Chelsea are in the United States for their pre-season tour as they face Wrexham on Thursday.

Maresca has already made a big call ahead of kicking off their pre-season by leaving out a player for the tour.

And Chelsea supporters think another ruthless decision is set to be made following his comments in a presser.

The Italian boss, who guided Leicester City to the Championship title last season, operates with inverted full-backs as he named the players who can adopt that position in his team.

He referenced Reece James, Malo Gusto, Marc Cucurella and Renato Veiga but snubbed Ben Chilwell.

"We won't necessarily invert the left," he explained. "I have seen a lot of Reece James and he can do that, and we have been trying it. And Malo Gusto can do it as well. But so can Marc and Renato. So we are trying both [sides]."

Maresca failing to mention Chilwell got Chelsea fans talking as they reckon his time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end.

One X user wrote: "Man saw Chillwell and nah."

A second tweeted: "Notice: Ben Chilwell wasn't mentioned."

A third added: "Chilly? Time to find a new club."

A fourth said: "He didn't mention Chilwell..... A big win."

Another commented: "It’s over for Chilwell."

Chilwell, 27, joined Chelsea from Leicester in the summer of 2020.

He has made 106 appearances for the club.

But he only managed 21 games across all competitions last season in an injury-hit campaign.

The left-back could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, with Maresca seemingly not including him in his plans for the 2024/25 campaign.

He's one of the club's highest earners and the board could be open to selling him if the price is right.
