Raheem Sterling supposedly saw his ‘payslip’ leaked on social media, and it revealed exactly how much Premier League stars can earn.
Footballers earning eye-watering amounts of money is hardly a surprise. The median gross annual earnings for a full-time employee in the UK is £37,430 as of April 2024, according to the ONS.
Even at the lower end of the Premier League, players can earn tens of thousands per week - £3.4m per year is the average wage of a top-flight player in England, according to Capology.
However, Manchester City stars Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland lead the way with reported salaries of £400,000 and £525,000 per week, respectively.

To put this into context, Haaland’s astronomical weekly wage is 14 times the amount the average full-time employee earns in a calendar year in the UK.
Of course, figures are very rarely confirmed by players and clubs, but Sterling reportedly saw his ‘payslip’ ‘leaked’ back in 2019.
At the time, Sterling – now on loan at Arsenal from Chelsea - was at City. The England international’s supposed payslip - which included a loyalty bonus – was left in his car when he took the vehicle to a garage.
And the person who found it, posted it online. The document – attached below – had several amounts printed on it.

In what appears to represent a month’s wage, Sterling supposedly had a net pay of £1,160,634.94, which was made up of £708,333.33 basic pay and a bonus of £1,500,000.
Before tax, the amount was £2,208,333.33 but was significantly reduced by deductions.
It must be noted that neither Manchester City or Sterling have confirmed that this was a legitimate payslip.

The winger's season-long loan at Arsenal has not gone as well as he may have liked, having made 11 appearances in the league without a goal to show for his efforts this term.
But his manager, Mikel Arteta, was still quick to back him to have an "impact" on the title race.
"He has to have it because we really need him," said Arteta last week.
"Raheem is so experienced... that could be relevant to the next game, to the next action."
