German media slam Harry Kane after Aston Villa defeat as Bayern Munich star given brutal rating

Kane failed to find the net against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The German media were critical of Harry Kane for his performance in Bayern Munich's 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

The loss represented the first time Bayern had failed to score in a competitive fixture under new manager Vincent Kompany.

They had a number of chances throughout the 90 minutes, with Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in imperious form.

He produced an excellent save to tip Michael Olise's curling effort over the bar, and kept out Serge Gnabry's shot after the winger was presented with a one-on-one chance.

But perhaps his most important save came late on, with Kane's goalbound header saved by the Argentinian.

However, German press were less than impressed with the England captain's display at Villa Park.

BILD gave him a rating of five out of six - with six being the worst number in their ratings system.

On his performance, the outlet wrote: "When he returned home, the captain of the English national team remained invisible. Just as he did against Leverkusen.

"He only managed his only shot on goal seconds before the final whistle."

Speaking after the game, Kane recognised that it was a 'tough' game for Bayern.

He said: "It's one of those where the 'keeper has had a fantastic game for them.

"We could've been out there another 20 minutes and the ball would not have gone in the net. A tough defeat but we move on.

"We just lacked that final pass or finish in their box. There were times in the first half where we had chances to play that final ball across. In the second half, we went 1-0 down and we had a few chances where he made some good saves.

"We have to learn from it ... from our point of view, there were some good stuff and some stuff we need to work on. But it's not a time to panic."
