Arsenal fans stunned after spotting rival player in the stands before Shakhtar game and are all making the same point

Arsenal fans stunned after spotting rival player in the stands before Shakhtar game and are all making the same point

A familiar face has been spotted at the Emirates.

Arsenal fans were left stunned after seeing one of their rival's players in the stands for their Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mikel Arteta's side picked up four points from their opening two matches of this season's competition.

They host Ukrainian giants Shakhtar at the Emirates Stadium looking to make it three games unbeaten.

Prior to the match, the Amazon Prime Video cameras focused in on a familiar face in the crowd - but it wasn't one that Arsenal fans were expecting.

Former Shakhtar star Mykhailo Mudryk - who now plays for Chelsea - is in the stands for the fixture.

And while he is in the stadium to watch his former club, Arsenal fans couldn't help but make the same point - particularly as Mudryk was left out of Chelsea's squad for their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Prior to joining Chelsea in January 2023, Mudryk was the subject of heavy transfer speculation surrounding a potential move to Arsenal.

But while negotiations lasted throughout much of the transfer window, Chelsea quickly completed an £89 million deal under the radar to bring the winger to Stamford Bridge.

And, perhaps unsurprisingly, Arsenal fans all had the same thing to say when they saw the Ukrainian.

One wrote: "Mudryk watching his two favourite clubs play each other."

A second said: "No way they've pulled up with Mudryk."

A third added: "Mudryk at the carpet to apparently watch Shakhtar, but really he's still mad Arsenal never completed the deal."

And a fourth wrote: "Mudryk at the Emirates tonight... what is Edu cooking?"

Mudryk has made four Premier League appearances under the new management of Enzo Maresca, but has largely been restricted to cup action so far this season.

He was not included in the squad for the Liverpool defeat despite training with the squad in midweek. Maresca did not comment on whether his decision was down to tactical or injury reasons.
