Andy Carroll has spoken out about reports regarding his stunning salary as new club Marseille, as the true figure has been revealed
Following nearly two decades playing across the English football league, Carroll made the move to French Ligue 2 club Amiens SC in September 2023, leaving Reading.
A year later, the 35-year-old signed for FC Girondins de Bordeaux, a side currently competing in the Championnat National 2, the fourth tier of French football, following several seasons of financial difficulties.

Following his move to his new club, reports began to circulate regarding the stunning salary he was receiving while playing for the fourth tier side, and now Carroll himself has addressed the rumours.
Despite featured prominently in Ligue 2 last season, Carroll made decided to go down to join Bordeaux, who had been relegated from Ligue 2 to the fourth division due to financial issues.
The club has recently gone bankrupt and were were forced to revoke their professional status and placed under administration, and as a result were kicked out of Ligue 2, despite securing safety last season.

Due to the financial situation, rumours began circulating in the media that Carroll was earning a shocking monthly salary of €3,500, but Carroll has now spoken out to reveal it is actually less than this.
Speaking to French outlet L’Equipe, Carroll said: “No, it’s a lot less than that.
“I won’t tell you the exact figure but to give you an idea, since I moved here, I rent a pretty little house and my salary is less than my rent. If I joined Bordeaux, it clearly wasn’t for the money."
The former West Ham and Newcastle United man also revealed that he had been sent offers to play for a much higher wage in the Saudi Pro League, but a move there wasn't ever a consideration.

"I had offers from elsewhere to play in Saudi Arabia, but that didn’t interest me,” he added.
L’Équipe report that a source from Bordeaux confirmed that the Englishman's salary at the club less than €2,500 per month.
Last month, Carroll told RMC Sport exactly why he was prepared to be playing in the lower league for a smaller wage, saying: "I am simply happy to be playing football. I want to be a part of this club’s history and to be frank, it wasn’t a question of money. In my career, it’s never been a question of money."
