Fan Pinpoints When VAR Caused Football To Die

"The exact moment football died."

One football fan claimed that Raheem Sterling's disallowed goal in the 2019 Champions League quarter finals is the 'exact moment football died.'

Back in April 2019, during an action-packed Champions League quarter-final at The Etihad, Manchester City thought they had snatched victory when that man Sterling scored in the 92nd minute to make it 5-4 on aggregate.

Pep Guardiola ran along the touchline as City fans celebrated one of the most incredible moments in their history.

After clawing the tie back to 4-4 and then scoring, it looked like a semi-final clash against Ajax was on the horizon.

But in a cruel twist, VAR ruled that Sergio Aguero was offside in the build-up to the last-gasp 'winner' and everyone associated with the club went from the highest high to the lowest low in a matter of seconds.

Despite it being almost three years since City were knocked out in the most brutal of circumstances, fans are still seething. In fact, Twitter user @SerMM91 claims to have not celebrated a goal since.

Moments after Sterling found the back of the net, one Manchester City fan left the ground early after believing that the club had gone through to the semi-final stages - only to be told by a reporter outside that the goal was not given.

"Why would I be disappointed? We won," the supporter says in the interview, which went viral afterwards.

His reaction to finding out that VAR disallowed the strike that would have sent through for the second time in their history is still absolutely priceless.

It was in fairness actually a night that VAR got it spot on and every neutral must have enjoyed the City fans going from elated to deflated in an instance.
