Erling Haaland says his dad's homemade lasagne is one of the biggest secrets behind his goalscoring form, but what about the often underappreciated carrot?

For those who have waited outside Manchester City's training ground to catch a glimpse of their favourite player, then you might be able to vouch for this one.

The Norwegian forward has been known to stop and sign autographs for fans.

And when he pulls up in his car, Haaland can often be spotted munching on a carrot before making his way into the Etihad Campus facility.

In fact, it looks like eating a carrot has become a key part of Haaland's in-car experience, with some speculating that he is simply trying to set a good example for his younger fans to eat healthy.

Others reckon it's the secret to leading this season's Premier League Golden Boot charts, where he has scored 26 goals in 22 games for the Citizens.

Twitter account Out Of Context Football posted several pictures of Haaland eating carrots from his car, and it's fair to say the post has gone viral, with fans discussing his love for the root vegetable.

One said: "Telling your kids to eat their carrots so they end up like Haaland>>>This parenting thing too easy," while another commented: "Maybe the trick is to eat whole carrots to become Haaland."

A third wrote: "Popeye has spinach, Haaland has carrots."

Last year, Haaland opened up on the diet that has turned him into one of world football's best players.

The Norway international follows a strict eating plan, something he touched on in a documentary titled 'Haaland: The Big Decision'.

In the show, an interviewer pulled out a number of meat products, including chunks of cow's heart and liver. He soon asks Haaland if this is what he eats to stay at the top of his game.

Haaland replies: "You (other people) don't eat this, but I am concerned with taking care of my body.

"I think eating quality food that is as local as possible is the most important. Or the local cow eating grass right over there? I eat the heart and the liver."

He went on to explain the complex water filtration system he uses, while stressing how important it is to look out at the sun.

Haaland mentions a circadian rhythm, which is an internal process in the body that regulates the sleeping and waking up pattern.

The Norway international continued: "The first thing I do in the morning is to get some sunlight in my eyes - it is good for circadian rhythm.

"I have also started to filtrate my water a bit. I think it can have great benefits for my body."

As mentioned earlier, Haaland's favourite meal is a lasagne cooked by his father, Alf-Inge, and he can consume up to 6000 calories a day.
