Manchester City fans are fuming as John Stones was forced off just nine minutes into the friendly match between England and Belgium.

Gareth Southgate started John Stones at the back but his outing at Wembley Stadium lasted a mere nine minutes.

A moment of indecision led to an awkward movement in his knee that led to his withdrawal in the opening stages of the game.

He was replaced by Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.

Stones' injury sent social media wild as Man City bemoaned Southgate's decision to play him.

One X user fumed: "The most pointless international break in the middle of the crunch period of the season, sees John Stones injured yet again as ready salted & ham sandwich Southgate starts him AGAIN in a nothing game."

A second tweeted: "For the life of me, I cannot understand why John Stones started this friendly or even played at all."

A third added: "John Stones is injured oh my god... I cannot be arsed."

A fourth said: "John Stones is injured. Gareth Southgate you have blood on your hands."

A Blues fan commented: "John Stones injured... pls call the season off."

It's not just a huge blow for England but also Man City, who resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday against Arsenal.

Stones' knock comes just days after Kyle Walker limped off against Brazil last weekend.

So, Pep Guardiola could be without two key players for their top-of-the-table clash at the Etihad.
