Manchester United have triggered the one-year contract extensions of Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Fred. However, the club are yet to extend the contract of No.1 goalkeeper David De Gea.
United made sure to trigger the contract clauses of the quartet before January, as the players would have been free to speak to overseas clubs from the new year if their extensions were not activated.
Fans will be delighted to see the extension of Rashford’s deal in particular, with the forward having scored eight goals in 19 games under Erik ten Hag, after an indifferent 2021-22 campaign.

Indeed, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said earlier this month that the Ligue 1 giants would have been interested in signing Rashford on a free transfer in the summer if United didn’t trigger the extension.
Meanwhile, Dalot’s extension will come as a relief to ten Hag, with the full-back having starred for the Old Trafford club throughout the campaign.
However, the club’s decision to not trigger De Gea’s extension has come as a surprise.
Why has De Gea not had his contract extended?
De Gea’s contract at Old Trafford is due to expire at the end of the season and a one-year extension has not been activated.

This is because United are in talks with the Spaniard over a fresh contract on reduced terms, to avoid paying the goalkeeper an eye-watering £375,000 a-week wage for another season.
De Gea signed the enormous United contract back in September 2019, and is among the highest earners at United, alongside Casemiro and Raphael Varane.
The 32-year-old keeper has previously said he would be open to reducing his wages to prolong his stay 11-year stay at Old Trafford.
