Cristiano Ronaldo loses it and gets into scrap with Tyrone Mings, it was WWE-esque

Cristiano Ronaldo and Tyrone Mings had to separated by their teammates on Sunday afternoon after the pair got into a WWE-esque scrap during Aston Villa's win against Man Utd.

With the home side 3-1 up thanks to goals from Leon Bailey, Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey, a battling United side were trying to reduce the deficit with 59 minutes on the clock at Villa Park.

But after Alejandro Garnacho tried and failed to get past full-back Matty Cash down the left hand side, referee Anthony Taylor stopped the game after a frustrated Ronaldo dragged Mings to the ground.

As you can see in the footage below, both players got into a pretty serious tussle in the penalty area.

Such was the severity of the incident, a VAR check took place for violent conduct, but it concludes no red card was required. Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, received a yellow card for his actions.

It was a poor day at the office for Erik ten Hag's men, who went 1-0 behind after just seven minutes when Leon Bailey knocked it past David de Gea with ease.

Things went from bad to worse for United as a superb free-kick from Lucas Digne dipped over the wall and into De Gea's net.

Luke Shaw's deflected effort just before the half-time whistle gave the Reds a glimmer of hope but Jacob Ramsey put the tie to bed to give Unai Emery his first win as Aston Villa manager.

Ahead of Sunday's clash at Villa Park, Ronaldo was named Manchester United captain by Erik ten Hag, just weeks after he refused to play for the club.

For the first time since January, the 37-year-old forward lead his side out of the tunnel on Sunday afternoon – a scenario that seemed almost impossible last month.

On October 20, after he refused to come on as a second-half substitute against Spurs at Old Trafford, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was 'banished' from Manchester United's first-team squad.

But weeks after Ten Hag said he would 'deal' with the situation the following morning after the Spurs result, Ronaldo was handed the captain's armband.

United manager Ten Hag explained his decision before kick-off.

"We have more leaders, Harry is on the bench, Bruno is suspended, you take the player who has the leadership," he said.

"The goalie is often far away from the situations, especially in the opponent's half and we want to play in the opponent's half. Casemiro is not speaking full English language yet, then you come to Cristiano, he is doing really (well) the last two games, I hope he keeps that process going.

"When you are captain and leader you have to set an example and that is what I expect from him — he is an important part of the squad, we are happy with him and now he has to taken even more of the leader role."
