Manchester United star Raphael Varane detailed the impact of Cristiano Ronaldo’s bombshell interview.

Ronaldo has given an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, in which he is scathing of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and claims to feel “betrayed” by the club.

He has also criticised the Glazers' ownership of the club and the lack of progress they have made since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement almost a decade ago.

The 90-minute sit-down, which is due to be shown on TalkTV on Wednesday and Thursday night, has caused a stir across the football world and will likely mark the end of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner’s time at Man Utd.

What Varane thinks

The interview will be shown in full while most Man Utd players are away at the World Cup.

Yet, Varane, who is in a fitness battle to make France’s World Cup opener against Australia next Wednesday, insisted that the comments had affected the Red Devils squad.

Speaking to French radio station Europe1 Varane said: "Obviously it affects us. We follow what is happening and what is being said.

"We try to calm the situation in our own way, we try not to get too involved in it. What is happening in the media in the big clubs is gaining momentum.”

Varane, who also played with Ronaldo at Real Madrid said: "When it's a star like Cristiano Ronaldo, even more, so we try to take it with distance, that is to say, that we do not try to change the situation alone, we are part of a collective.

“What I want is the best for my team so whatever the decision, as a player, we will accept it and give the best of ourselves."
