Cristiano Ronaldo was the complete centre forward against Everton, his highlights are something else

Cristiano Ronaldo was the complete centre forward against Everton, his highlights are something else

Ronaldo replaced Anthony Martial in the first half.

Cristiano Ronaldo produced his best performance of the season during Manchester United's 2-1 victory over Everton.

The forward started Sunday's game on the bench but replaced an injured Anthony Martial in the first half.

Ronaldo featured in Thursday's 3-2 win over Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League, cutting a frustrated figure throughout as he spurned easy chances.

He didn't make the same mistakes at Goodison Park. The 37-year-old gave United the lead with with his 700th club goal after Antony had cancelled out Alex Iwobi's early opener.

Ronaldo was much more involved in United's overall play than usual. His first meaningful contribution in the contest was a defensive header to clear away a free-kick.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner linked up well with his teammates, including Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

United were unlucky to not grab a third through Rashford, who ran onto a Ronaldo flick-on to slot past Jordan Pickford in the Toffees net.

VAR judged Rashford to have handled the ball in the build-up and ruled it out.

Supporters have reacted to Ronaldo's performance, hoping he can turned a corner after a poor start to the campaign.

One person said: "He was everywhere tonight, fair play."

Another commented: "If this is what he plays like when he's 'finished' I'll take that."

A third tweeted: "Ronaldo knew he was scoring. My GOAT."

While someone put: "The greatest there ever was and ever will be."

Prior to his strike against Everton, Ronaldo's only goal this term came from the penalty spot against FC Sheriff last month.

The Portugal international attempted to leave United in the summer to play Champions League football.

He ended up staying at Old Trafford as no club registered interest.

United manager Erik ten Hag paid tribute to Ronaldo at full-time, acknowledging his sensational scoring record.

"That is really impressive," Ten Hag said per The Guardian. "To score 700 goals is a huge performance. I’m really happy for him. I congratulate him on that performance and I’m also happy as it’s his first goal this season in the Premier League. He had to wait for it and I’m sure there will be more goals."

United have a busy October schedule and return to action against Omonia on Thursday, before facing Newcastle United next Sunday.
