Atletico Madrid fans made their feelings known about the ongoing Cristiano Ronaldo transfer rumours with a 'CR7 Not Welcome' sign during their pre-season friendly against Numancia.

Diego Simeone's side have been strongly linked with a move for the wantaway forward this summer.

The 37-year-old is desperate to play Champions League football in the coming months and with the Portuguese heading into his final year at Manchester United, it looks Ronaldo could leave Old Trafford in the not-so-distant future.

Ronaldo, who believes he has three or four years left at the highest level, held showdown talks with United officials on Tuesday morning alongside his agent, Jorge Mendes.

Mendes is trying his best to get his client a move but after Chelsea and Bayern Munich turned down the chance to sign the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, it now appears a move to Atletico Madrid is all but over.

In a recent interview with Spanish radio station Cerezo, the club's president Enrique Cerezo said it was a "practically impossible" deal to make.

"I don’t know who invented this story about Cristiano Ronaldo to Atletico Madrid," he said. "It’s not true."

A day after Cerezo made those comments and Atletico fans have decided to put the final nail in the coffin.

During their pre-season clash against third-tier Numancia, a number of supporters held up a 'CR7 Not Welcome' sign behind the goal at the Nuevo Estadio Los Pajaritos stadium.

Several pictures of the banners emerged on social media during Wednesday's game.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, an Atletico Madrid fan group asked the club to rule out signing Cristiano Ronaldo because he "represents the antithesis" of their values as a team.

In a statement on their official Twitter account, @unionatm made their feelings clear.

"In light of the possibility of signing Cristiano Ronaldo, if it is more than a simple rumour without any basis, we express our absolute rejection of his hypothetical joining of our club," they said.

"The aforementioned player represents the antithesis of the values that constitute the hallmarks of our Atleti, such as the effort, generosity, modesty and humility of those who want to defend our values.

"Even in the highly unlikely hypothetical case that a player in steep decline such as Cristiano Ronaldo could guarantee us a trophy, we wouldn't accept his signing. The sense of being a part of our Atletico feeling isn't within his reach, unfortunately for him, and as such he could never receive our affection or recognition.

"As such, we ask the club to reject his possible signing, if it has indeed been considered at any time."
