Manchester United and Arsenal have been put on red alert by an update on Cody Gakpo by respected transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Gakpo has been one of the World Cup’s standout performers, scoring three goals in four games for the Netherlands and being a key part of their journey to the quarter final.
Gakpo has also impressed at club level for PSV Eindhoven and is one of the Eredivisie’s most talented players.

Naturally, his performances at the World Cup have gained the attention of the world’s biggest clubs. Manchester United and Arsenal are just some of the clubs apparently interested in the forward’s signature. Liverpool are also reported to be keen on the player, and Leeds made an attempt to sign him in the summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano provided an update on Gakpo’s transfer situation. He suggested that a certain price may be enough to tempt PSV to sell Gakpo in January.
“PSV’s original plan was to let him go in the summer and not in January,” Romano stated.
“But now, after this World Cup, if a bid of more than 50 million euros (£43m) will arrive, there is a chance for Gakpo to leave in January.”

Romano also highlighted that this is more than just a vague rumour, and there is a genuine possibility that this could happen.
“I’m told there is a serious chance. So keep an eye on the market in the next days.”
Manchester United and Arsenal both keen on Gakpo
It is widely reported that both Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in the 23-year-old Gakpo. According to The Athletic from a piece back in October, Arsenal were interested in Gakpo whilst Manchester United considered signing him before opting for Antony.

Both clubs will likely enter the January transfer market to strengthen their forward options. Arsenal need to find cover for Gabriel Jesus, who has been ruled out for three months with a knee injury. Manchester United have a gap in their attack following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Winger Jadon Sancho has also been linked with a move away from the club.
Gakpo’s performances for club and country are likely to cause a very competitive battle for his signature.
