Big spenders Chelsea attempted an ambitious deadline day move to bring Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat to Stamford Bridge but ultimately failed.

Since Todd Boehly took charge of Chelsea last year, he has been spending huge money to bring in players in order to improve his side.

It was the case again in January as the Blues spent more than £300 million on the likes of Myhailo Mudryk, David Fofana and Enzo Fernandez.

According to Spanish media outlet El Chringuito, Chelsea made a bid to sign Morocco star Amrabat but Fiorentina decided to reject the bid.

After impressing in Morocco’s run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Amrabat has been heavily linked with a host of clubs around the continent.

The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Barcelona were all believed to be keeping an eye on the 26-year-old’s situation.

However, it was reported that Fiorentina rejected multiple bids for the player which they declared as not for sale.

In what was a frantic deadline day, Chelsea left it late to seal a British record £106.8 million deal for Argentina’s World Cup winner Fernandez.

The Stamford Bridge club previously had a number of offers rejected by Benfica earlier in the month but decided to return on deadline day.

Although they brought in a lot of new players, Chelsea did part ways with midfielder Jorginho, who joined Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Upon signing for the Gunners, the Italian said: “I’m very excited for this new challenge, and I just can’t wait to be on the pitch to be honest! Everything has happened so fast. I was a bit surprised, but I took the opportunity of this amazing challenge.

“It’s an important shirt. It’s an amazing club, a big one, and I’m really excited and happy to be here.”

Chelsea are next in action on Friday as they take on Fulham in the Premier League.
