Manchester United star Casemiro has revealed he would have rejected a move to Old Trafford if the opportunity came earlier in his career.
The Brazilian midfielder left Real Madrid for United in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth a reported fee of £70 million.
Since then, Casemiro has gone on to become one of the most important players under Erik ten Hag as United made a return to the Premier League’s top four whilst also winning the Carabao Cup.
However, the 31-year-old has revealed that he would have stayed at Madrid if United or any other team tried to lure him away earlier in his career.

Speaking to Spanish media outlet Placar TV, Casemiro explained why he felt the time was right to draw the curtains on his wonderful Madrid career.
He said, as per The Metro: “I had various reasons. I had various reasons that one ends up placing on a scale and ends up compensating.
“Speaking of reasons… of course, I talked to my family. It’s important to talk to my family. They accepted that everything was going to be fine. My wife, my family, my children, of course, their happiness is also important.”
Casemiro added: “There was a time to leave the club, to leave a great club. There are ages when you have that will, that strength to move.

“I would also tell you that if it had been two years ago I would not have left. If it had happened in two or three years I would not have left Real Madrid to go to another big one in Europe. There is an ambition to want to play in another league.”
Back in December, Casemiro explained why he chose United as his next club.
Speaking during a Q&A session with the club, he said: “Without a doubt it was down to the great stature of Manchester, because it's a massive club with a great history.

“For sure that was the big attraction for coming here.”
The midfielder continued: “I think that the great standing this club has in the game and its great history are definitely the most important reasons to be here. It's also a fresh set of goals in a brand-new league for me.”
