Thomas Muller Sets Record Which May Never Be Broken in Fifth Game For New Club

The Bayern Munich legend has broken another record at his new club

Thomas Muller has set a record which may never be broken in just his fifth game for his new club.

The 36-year-old left Bayern Munich in the summer, after a remarkable 25 years at the Bavarian giants, where he rose from an academy graduate to one of their greatest ever players.

During his time in Munich, he won an astonishing 13 Bundesliga titles, two Champions League crowns and even lifted the World Cup with Germany.

Few players in history come close to matching his trophy haul. When his contract expired, Muller decided to move overseas and he joined the MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

It has proved to be a successful move, with the Canadian side winning the Canadian Championship final, with a 4-2 victory over Vancouver FC.

For Muller, the game had greater significance as he now stands alone as the most successful German player in history, with 35 trophies.

Previously, he had shared the record with the legendary Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos. Now Muller stands on his own, having played a key part in the latest trophy.

Just five minutes into the final he set up Ali Ahmed for the opener, before he converted a penalty spot to give his side a two-goal lead inside 10 minutes.

Muller was withdrawn after 79 minutes with his team leading 4-1 and well on the way to winning another trophy.

After the game, the legendary attacker did not want to be known as the most successful German footballer.

He told SPORT BILD: "I'd rather say: 'Germany's most successful title hoarder'. The question is always: How do you weight these titles?

"One player wins the national championship more often, while the other has more Champions League victories to his name.

"Statistics are a nice thing, nothing more and nothing less. I don't play football for my 'title legacy,' but because I simply love being on the pitch."

Although Muller may won have the most trophies, Kroos' European success sets him apart.

The midfielder won six European cups, one at Bayern Munich, before lifting another five during his time at Real Madrid. In Spain, he formed a legendary midfield trio alongside Casemiro and Luka Modric.

That partnership helped Real Madrid to win the trophy for three successive years, which had never been done before

Although they dominated Europe, Real Madrid did not win as many domestic trophies.

Kroos won La Liga four time and the Spanish Cup just once.

By contrast, Bayern Munich have dominated the German domestic league and cup throughout Muller's career.
