Jose Mourinho has reportedly set his sights on one of the top jobs in European football as he plans his return to the sport.

Former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham boss Mourinho has been without a role since he was sacked by Roma in January.

He has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League, with former club Chelsea and Newcastle potential options for the Portuguese.

But it has now been claimed he is seeking a new challenge in a league he's never managed in before.

German publication BILD claim that Mourinho is 'keen' to become the next manager of Bayern Munich and has already taken steps to securing the role.

The Champions League semi-finalists are set to part ways with head coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season but are yet to announce his replacement.

Former United boss Ralf Rangnick was favourite to take the job but reports on Thursday claimed he has rejected the German giants.

BILD now claim that Mourinho has 'already rejected a few requests' from other clubs 'because Bayern would appeal to him'.

However, it is also claimed that there could opposition at the German club to appointing Mourinho because of his 'defensive football' and 'huge ego'.

BILD reported last month that Mourinho is in the process of learning German, having never previously managed in the Bundesliga.

Speaking to Portuguese publication A Bola earlier this week, Mourinho said he was eager to return to a coaching role as soon as possible.

"I have no projects. What happens will happen. The weight of my story is heavy," he said.

"I know that even when I coach teams that aren’t cut out to win, people expect me to always win.

"In the last two years I reached two European finals. I want to train, it is a fundamental part of my life, without training there is no happiness."
