Manchester United will face crosstown rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final after a nail-biting penalty shootout win over Brighton at Wembley on Sunday.

United entered the FA Cup semi-final clash hot on the heels of their crushing Europa League quarter-final defeat to Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Thursday.

Neither United nor Brighton were able to break the deadlock in regular playing time, with the semi-final clash being forced into extra time.

United and Brighton both pushed for a potential winner in extra time, but the back-and-forth semi-final tie was ultimately settled from the spot-kick.

Casemiro, Diogo Dalot, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Marcel Sabitzer, Wout Weghorst and Victor Lindelof all successfully converted from the spot-kick for United.

Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister, Pascal Gross, Deniz Undav, Pervis Estupinan and Lewis Dunk beat David de Gea from their respective spot-kick efforts for Brighton.

However, Solly March blazed his spot-kick strike high and wide as United booked their place in the FA Cup final after a 7-6 win in the penalty shootout.

Erik ten Hag led United to their first major silverware in six years after the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Newcastle in the League Cup final at Wembley in February.

The United manager could now lift his second piece of silverware with the Red Devils and scupper City’s hopes of completing a treble this season.

United will now face City in a Manchester derby in the FA Cup final on 3rd June at Wembley.

City punched their ticket to the FA Cup final with a 3-0 victory over Sheffield United at Wembley on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s men are still in contention of becoming only the second English club in history to complete a continental treble after United’s famous 1998-99 side.

City are five points behind Arsenal in the Premier League title race -- with two matches in hand -- ahead of their showdown with the Gunners on Wednesday.

And the defending Premier League champions are through to the Champions League semi-final and will face current title holders Real Madrid in the first leg on 9th May.
