Manuel Neuer has confirmed he will be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery for a broken leg sustained while on holiday.
The 36-year-old, who is regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers of his generation, started all three of Germany's games at this year's World Cup.
Hansi Flick's side were shockingly dumped out of the competition after winning just one game in Group E.

Neuer was using the next few weeks to recharge his batteries ahead of the Bundesliga season restarting.
The Bayern Munich shot stopper was on a skiing trip before suffering a devastating injury.
He's released a statement, which reads: "Hey guys, what can I say, the end of the year could have definitely gone better... "While I was trying to get my head clear while ski touring, I suffered a lower leg fracture. Yesterday's surgery went well. Many thanks to the doctors!

"However, it hurts to know that the current season is over for me. Take care! Your Manuel."
Neuer's absence will be a big blow to Bayern, who are top of the Bundesliga by four points.
Julian Nagelsmann's side were among the favourites to win this season's Champions League but that'll prove to be difficult without Neuer between the sticks.

Bayern's current reserve goalkeeper is Sven Ulreich, who has made three Bundesliga appearances this term.
Last month, Neuer revealed he previously had to undergo surgery three times for skin cancer on his face.
He said in a press release, while promoting a skincare range with three-time tennis Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber: "We both have a very personal history of skin diseases.

"In Angelique's case it's sun-related hyperpigmentation, and in my case it's skin cancer on my face, which I've already had to have operated on three times.
"That's why we also took special care not to make any compromises when it comes to sun protection: Because I train outside all the time and also like to spend my free time in nature."
