Officials at Barcelona still cannot believe they got Spurs to pay £26 million for Emerson Royal in the summer.

The defender moved to Blaugrana in a "joint financial operation" with Real Betis in 2019, with the two clubs sharing the transfer fee.

He then played 79 times for the Andalusian side and impressed to the point Barca felt they needed to outright purchased him for €9 million in the summer.

Emerson was given a three-year deal, as well as a €300 million contract being inserted into his contract.

He was officially unveiled as a Barca player on August 2 and played three times for the club in La Liga, before the former Atletico Mineiro man joined Spurs on transfer deadline day.

Barca made a profit on a player they had only technically signed two months player and the Catalan club still can't quite understand the transfer they received, as per The Telegraph.

£25.8 million was the exact fee and Emerson accused Barca of kicking him out of the club.

He's played 18 times in all competitions for Spurs, including starting all but two Premier League games under Antonio Conte since the Italian's arrival.

However, with the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss playing with a back three, the same report adds that Conte is not entirely convinced with Emerson being suited to a right wing-back role.

Spurs' top target for the position is said to be Wolves powerhouse Adama Traore and they are willing to pay £20 million to bring him to North London this month.
