The report adds that Erik ten Hag "is pressing" the club to seal a deal for the France international. However, the Dutchman is working with limited resources.
United are on the brink of completing the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea this week after the two clubs agreed a £60m fee.
But that would leave Ten Hag with less than half of his reported £100m transfer budget, enforced through Financial Fair Play regulations. Meanwhile, the Old Trafford club have their sights set on a new striker and goalkeeper.
