Thousands of Atletico Madrid supporters gave club legend Radamel Falcao a goosebump-worthy standing ovation during their La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano.
The experienced Colombian striker, who scored 70 goals in 91 games for Los Colchoneros during a two-year spell in Madrid, went up against his former club on Sunday afternoon.
As you can see in the footage below, Falcao received a hero's welcome as he replaced Santi Comesana with 15 minutes left inside the Wanda Metropolitano. This is great to see.
The arrival of Falcao was not enough for Vallecano to spark a comeback against Diego Simeone's side as a brace from Angel Correa sealed an important 2-0 win.
Away from the result and it was that wholesome moment involving the 35-year-old forward that inevitably grabbed the headlines.
It was announced in September that the former FC Porto and Monaco striker had completed a move to Rayo Vallecano after his contract was terminated at Galatasaray.
Falcao was handed the number three jersey for the 2021/22 campaign as he returned to Spanish football for the first time since 2013.
"It is an opportunity for my career, I am very happy to join this institution," he said after completing the move.
"It is a place where they will give me all the confidence to be able to give my best and be part of a team with a very nice spirit.
He added: "I know several players from there, they have transmitted to me what the dressing room, the coaching staff are like, so I feel very proud to be part of this club and to return to a league that I already know, which is very competitive and surely it will allow me to continue growing."
