Jorginho has revealed that Arsenal teammate Granit Xhaka bought him dinner after he signed for the club.

Jorginho arrived at the Emirates on transfer deadline day from Chelsea in a deal worth around £12million to help provide depth in midfield.

He joins the Gunners at a hugely exciting time, with Mikel Arteta's young team currently two points clear at the top of the table.

The Euro 2020 winner won the hearts of supporters after scoring a stunning, yet bizarre injury time winner during Arsenal's 4-2 victory over Aston Villa.

The win has left fans dreaming of lifting the Premier League trophy for the first time since 2004.

Jorginho discusses relationship with Xhaka

Jorginho and Xhaka have had a bitter relationship down the years, having rivalled each other whenever Arsenal face up against the Blues.

However, since becoming teammates at the Emirates, Jorginho revealed the Switzerland international paid for his dinner.

Speaking to beIN Sports, the Italian said: “Yes, I’m happy. We had a few fights on the pitch before but outside of the pitch, he’s a really nice guy and we have good laughs now.

“Yes, outside of the pitch [Xhaka is different]. I asked him the other day where I could go for dinner around here and he booked me and didn't let me pay as well.

"I was like ‘Ok, thank you very much.’ [laughs]. So yes he’s a really, really nice guy and I’m glad I can see this other part of him.”

Jorginho has also shed some light on the process of his move across London.

“He [Arteta] called me and it was all very quick, we made the deal in less than 48 hours," the 30-year-old told DAZN.

“I had spoken to Chelsea and I knew I was no longer part of their plans. I wanted to progress in my career and the Arsenal project suits me.

“It’s a young team that plays good football and fits my characteristics. I considered every scenario and made the decision. Sometimes you must accept when you are out of a project and that things come to an end.”
