Sir Alex Ferguson once revealed that the late Queen told him that no British club would manage to replicate Manchester United’s historic treble-winning feat.

The Red Devils remain the only English team in history to secure a continental treble after Ferguson’s United lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the 1998-99 season.

Since United’s legendary treble triumph in 1999, both Barcelona and Bayern Munich have completed continental trebles on two separate occasions.

Ferguson’s former rival Jose Mourinho completed a treble-winning season with Inter Milan in 2010 and remain the only Italian team to manage such a feat.

Following his knighthood at Buckingham Palace, the legendary Scotsman agreed with Her Majesty that no other English team would repeat the same feat as United.

“The Queen told me she doesn't think it will ever be achieved again and she's right,” he said.

“The culmination of three trophies was the pinnacle of my career and it has been rewarded with a knighthood.

“It's such a proud moment for me, my family and for the club because it is a team effort.”

According to the Irish Independent, Ferguson pointed towards the significance of the insignia of a Knight Bachelor and what it meant to his distinguished managerial career.

“This is the medal that recognises all the other ones I've won in football,” he said.

Ferguson, 80, continued to manage United beyond the club’s treble-winning feat and hoovered up more silverware before calling it time on his illustrious career.
